The Society of CPCU and its members have long recognized the important role that education plays in the lives of those committed to the highest standards of professionalism. In 1986, through the efforts of President Andrew M. Erickson, CPCU, the Rhode Island Chapter of CPCU established the Rhode Island CPCU Scholarship Fund. This program fosters both education and excellence through the awarding of scholarships to college students from families employed within the Rhode Island insurance community, based on demonstrated excellence in academic performance.
Funding for the scholarship comes from the local insurance community, and the chapter membership. The scholarships are awarded after a thorough evaluation of the candidates, and are based solely on academic excellence.
The winners will receive awards that range from $2,500 to $4,000 and will be recognized at the Society's June awards banquet.
To be eligible an applicant must be working in the insurance industry in Rhode Island, or a Rhode Island resident working elsewhere in the industry, or an active member of the RI Chapter of CPCU. The scholarship also extends to the relatives of Rhode Island residents who meet the insurance criteria. Relatives are defined as spouses, children, stepchildren, and brothers and sisters.
Applicants must be pursuing their education at an accredited two or four year college or university on a full time basis in an associate or bachelor degree program.
Unsuccessful candidates who have previously applied are encouraged to reapply.
